Big Peat Christmas Edition 2023 \u2013 Sherry Cask Finish 54.8%<\/strong> is a limited Islay blended malt, bottled at natural cask strength. As ever, it\u2019s composed entirely of heavily peated single malts from Islay, reputedly including Ardbeg, Bowmore, Caol Ila and Port Ellen, but for the 2023 release Big Peat has, for the first time, been given a finishing period in sherry casks. The result is a festive peat monster wrapped in layers of dried fruit, cocoa and spicy oak.<\/p>\n

Style & producer<\/h3>\n

Bottled by Douglas Laing, Big Peat is their tongue-in-cheek but seriously smoky tribute to Islay. The 2023 Christmas Edition is presented at 54.8% ABV, with no chill-filtration and no added colouring. Expect big, bold, chimney-stack smoke backed up by rich sherry sweetness and wintery spice \u2013 a true \u201cChristmas by the fireplace\u201d whisky.<\/p>\n

Nose<\/h3>\n

The nose is bold, coastal and festively rich:<\/p>\n

    Palate<\/h3>\n

    On the palate, the whisky is thick, oily and intensely flavoured:<\/p>\n

      cocoa, espresso hints, charred oak and baking spices \u2013 cinnamon, nutmeg and pepper<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

      candied peel, orange zest and a touch of Christmas cake<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

      powerful phenolic peat: ash, sweet tar, smoking chimneys, smoked bacon and salty beach notes<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

      The sherry finish brings a generous layer of seasonal richness without diluting the full-on Islay character.<\/p>\n
