Paul John Christmas Edition 2022<\/strong> is an Indian single malt from Goa, bottled at 46%. The fifth release in Paul John\u2019s annual festive series, it\u2019s designed to taste like a Christmas dessert in a glass. The whisky is crafted from malts that were first matured in ex-bourbon casks and then finished in a mix of brandy casks and peated Oloroso sherry casks, giving a chestnut-coloured dram with rich dark fruit, spice and gentle peat smoke.<\/p>\n

Producer \u2013 Paul John, Goa<\/h3>\n

Paul John is one of the leading \u201cnew world\u201d whisky producers, based on India\u2019s west coast in Goa. Using Indian six-row barley, traditional copper pot stills and tropical maturation, the distillery is known for oily, flavoursome whiskies that mature quickly and develop plenty of fruit. For the Christmas Edition series, specially selected wine and dessert-wine influenced casks \u2013 plus a touch of peat \u2013 are combined to create a distinctly festive profile.<\/p>\n

Nose<\/h3>\n

The nose is warm, aromatic and very inviting:<\/p>\n

    sweet oak, vanilla, baked apples and peaches<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

    dark fruits: plums, stewed berries, plum pudding and sticky toffee<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

  • \n

    dark chocolate and cocoa over a base of cereal malt<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

  • \n

    dry Christmas spice \u2013 nutmeg, cinnamon, light pepper \u2013 with a wisp of peat smoke<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    Palate<\/h3>\n

    On the palate, the whisky is creamy, medium-bodied and flavoursome:<\/p>\n

      soft, sweet notes of orange, dark chocolate, toffee and butterscotch<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

      layers of stewed plums, apples and pears \u2013 very much in a Christmas dessert style<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

      mellow peat adding depth and warmth rather than heavy smoke<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

      light peppery spice and oak that tighten up the sweetness and add structure<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

      Finish & serving<\/h3>\n

      The finish is deep, creamy and lingering:<\/p>\n
