The region and the producer<\/h2>\n

The Lodi area (pronounced \u201cLohd-eye\u201d) lies east of San Francisco near the Sacramento River. It\u2019s part of California\u2019s Central Valley wine region, characterized by well-drained soils and a near-Mediterranean climate. Cool morning fog and warm, sun-drenched afternoons create ideal conditions for Zinfandel. These climatic factors allow the grapes to ripen slowly, developing high intensity, deep color, and a wonderfully fruit-driven character.<\/p>\n

Brothers Michael and David Phillips descend from a family of farmers who have grown wine grapes in Lodi for nearly a century. Today, the family enterprise includes the sixth generation: Kevin Phillips and Melissa Phillips Stroud. They continue the tradition of producing high-quality wines with eye-catching, distinctive labels.<\/p>\n

Michael David Winery farms with respect for future generations and has implemented some of the most progressive, sustainable agricultural practices in California. The family cultivates 300 hectares of vineyards, and all Lodi grapes from Michael David Winery are certified sustainable.<\/p>\n

The wine<\/h2>\n

7 Deadly Zins comes in at a generous 15% and is made from Zinfandel with a small portion of Petite Sirah. The grape quality is top-notch, and Lodi\u2019s weather is ideal for growth: very little rain, plenty of warm days, and cool nights during harvest.<\/p>\n

In the glass<\/h2>\n

7 Deadly Zins is sinfully, almost naughtily delicious\u2014a temptation from the first drop. Perhaps it stems from the brothers\u2019 Catholic schooling or simply their passion for irresistibly seductive wines. Michael and David\u2019s flagship is Old Vine Zinfandel from Lodi, where Zinfandel is the undisputed king.<\/p>\n

The wine is full-bodied and lavish, yet retains purity and spice from 12 months in American oak barrels.<\/p>\n
