This 18-year-old bottling from Tobermory Distillery offers a whisky primarily matured in ex-bourbon barrels before receiving a finish in used sherry casks.<\/p>\n
Bottled at CVH\u2019s iconic 46.3% and, as always: natural colour and non-chill filtered.<\/p>\n
Nose
\nHeavily fruited and smoky malt. Well-balanced between the phenols (smoke), maritime character, and sweetness from the oak casks.<\/p>\n
Palate
\nFull-bodied, powerful, and sherry-driven. Herbal smoke, caramel with sea salt and orange peel. Old tobacco and freshly ground white pepper.<\/p>\n
Finish
\nRelatively long with even more pleasant smoke and sherry, plus dense notes of liquorice and a hint of sea mist.<\/p>\n
Comment
\nIt\u2019s no coincidence that this very whisky won \u201cWhisky of the Year\u201d in 2023 at the renowned The Whisky Exchange.<\/p>\n
About Tobermory\/Ledaig
\nTobermory is one of Scotland\u2019s oldest distilleries and the only distillery on the Isle of Mull. Founded back in 1798, it was originally named Ledaig. Since then the distillery has seen major ups and downs, including a complete closure between 1930 and 1972 and several changes of ownership.
