Woodstock Very Old Fortified Minimum 20 Years Old 50 CL

Australian “Port” McLaren Vale

Since the 1960s, Woodstock has entertained port wine producers with a glorious tawny style with a huge age touch. The grapes used are 70% grenache and 30% syrah from McLaren Vale.

The wine is aged for at least 20 years in small oak barrels between 100 and 300 liters. During storage, the wine loses 4-5% of its volume each year, which ultimately means that approx. 2/3 of the wine has evaporated before the wine is fully aged. When it says ‘minimum 20 years old’ on the label, this must be taken very literally: currently the average age is 25 years in the ready-blended wine.

These are therefore of course intense cases, but it is certainly also a complex sizes with refined oxidative aromas and beautifully balanced volatile acid to keep the 250 grams of residual sugar / liter in check. The wine delivers a sensory bombardment of walnut, pecan, moscovado, pickled orange peel, Christmas spice and well-cooked cream caramel. Enormous fullness and fatness are tamed by the acid and the wine thus slides down with astonishing ease, and you have plenty of time to enjoy the aftertaste, which is minutes long. Woodstock Very Old Fortified is a heavenly mouthful along with desserts where nuts and / or caramel play a significant role.

Enjoy slightly cooled, approx. 14 ° of a not too wide white wine glass. However, there is no hurry, because the bottle stays well in the open state, but once there is a hole in the bottle, it has to be emptied in a hurry!
