Woodstock Deep Sands Shiraz 75 CL

McLaren Vale Australia

Deep Sands Shiraz from family-owned Woodstock in McLaren Vale is a worthy exponent of this highly esteemed wine region, but at the same time it is well below the area’s normally ambitious prices.

With our colored glasses, we think it is the area’s best wine price / quality.

A little south of Adelaide we find McLaren Vale, where wine production goes back almost 200 years. This is where Woodstock belongs; a family-owned producer with an annual output of 350,000 fl. spread over 20 wines by volume is a small size in an industry where a handful of mastodons are market dominant.

This shiraz is grown on sandy soil from its own vines at the winery and in Blewitt Springs, the youngest from the 1980s. Wine is made by renowned Ben Glaetzer, who to match the grapes’ profile has chosen to store the wine for a year on a mixture of stainless steel and 2nd and 3rd year oak barrels.

In this interpretation, the Shiraz grape offers rich, dark berries, plum and a little coffee beans and vanilla from the barrel storage. This is classic Australian shiraz with fullness and concentration but at the same time without sharp edges and in elevated balance.

Woodstock Deep Sands Shiraz a wine that is easy to drink and like; informal and good as the Australians themselves. Enjoy the wine with red meat or lamb, whether fried, braised or grilled. A luxury burger is also possible.

In our opinion, best enjoyed at a serving temperature of 14-17 °.
The wine is ready to drink now, but it can also be stored approx. 10 years from the autumn year.
