Percheron – Shiraz-Mouvedre 75 CL

Western Cape – South Africa

Soft and round wine with dark berries, chocolate notes and spices. This is a vinous (14.5%) wine, and the powerful character and the sun-ripened dark fruits give the wine a long and full-bodied aftertaste.

Boutinot is an international wine company that works with more than 150 wineries around the world. They also produce a large number of wines themselves in close collaboration with winemakers in France, Italy and South Africa. It is from the latter country that Percheron is being produced. The grapes are picked from more than 80-year-old vines in the trendy Swartland. Name and etiquette are a tribute to the large heavy workhorse of the Percheron breed, which was used in the vineyards before the advent of the tractors. Percheron is a wine that the English wine journalist Jancis Robertson has listed among his “best value wines”. She adds that the wine delivers far more than what one can expect from the price (massive over delivery for the price). This has led to high demand for wine in England and therefore we are only allocated very limited quantities. Although the producer states that the wine is produced on 70% Shiraz and 30% Mourvèdre, a little Viognier grape is fermented together with the Shiraz before the final blend with Mourvèdre. Soft and round wine with dark berries, chocolate notes and spices. This is a vinous (14.5%) wine, and the powerful character and the sun-ripened dark fruits give the wine a long and full-bodied aftertaste.
