Quinta do Portal – Late Bottled Vintage 2014 Porto (LBV) 75 CL 20%

Douro Valley Port – Portugal

This only lightly filtered LBV port wine is a dense, fruity and powerful port wine, which with a mixture of sweetness and firm tannins gives the taste experience that the LBV type should, namely a wine that is related to vintage port and is drinkable now, although there are still many good years left in it.

Quinta do Portal is synonymous with the Mansilha Branco family, who for generations have owned vineyards at Pinhão, in the heart of the Cima Corgo, where they have sold grapes and wine to the famous houses. Shortly after Portugal’s accession to the EC / EU, where it was allowed to store and sell in the Douro Valley (rather than the demarcated zone in Vila Nova de Gaia), Portal joined the bandwagon and even started the production of table wines and port wines under the expert guidance of Paulo Coutinho.

Aroma and taste have intense, evocative shades of elderberry, blueberry and cocoa with intensity, fullness and immediate drinking pleasure. Great fatness, fullness and noticeable sweetness are kept in check by polished tannins and the aguardent.

Quinta do Portal Late Bottled Vintage Port 2013 can be enjoyed solo, for light chocolate desserts or for strong, blue cheeses. Particularly manly orthodox are even seen with a pepper steak and a quality LBV like this…

Remember to enjoy the wine in spacious glasses, so you also get the aroma experience.

We recommend a serving temperature of 17-18 °. This LBV is closed with a traditional cork, as it will develop considerably upon further bottle storage.

Over time, this only lightly filtered port wine will shed sediment, which is why we recommend decanting the wine if it is stored for 3-4 years or more.

In the open state, the wine stays fresh in its youth 2-4 weeks after opening; longest kept cool, while the shelf life after opening in fully mature state is somewhat less.
