Don Q Rum Double Cask Finish – Vermouth Cask

Puerto Rican Double Aged Rum

Double-mated, complex and soft Rome.

Don Q Double Aged Vermouth Cask Finish room is, as the name suggests, a Rome who has first been ripened in barrels of American oak tree and subsequently in barrels previously contained Vermouth. Vermouth is a fortified wine, ie a grape-based wine where spirits have been added. Before setting the wine on oak barrels, various plants, herbs and spices are also added. You add everything from the birch, nellike, cinnamon, kinin, citrus peel, cardamom, chamomile, coriander, juniper and ginger. Of course, the addition varies from Vermouth to Vermouth, just as the grape variety to the base wine can also vary.
When Vermouth is a very powerful tasting wine, Don Q-ROM has only spent quite a short time on these barrels – actually only between four and six weeks. Before that, the room has been ripened between four and six years on US oak tree. The ROM is a mixture of light, medium heavy and heavy rom components from the distillery storage halls.

Don Q is produced by Destilería Serrallés at Puerto Rico in the Caribbean – a hypermodern Romdestillery as that day today is still family owned. Through six generations, the Serrallés family has stood behind the distillery, which produces the island’s best Rome; Don Q. Back in 1865 Don Juan Serrallés imported a small copper pox and hereby distilled the first Rome sold under the Serrallés name. In 1934, the distiller launched the Don Q-brand, named after the novel Don Quixote by Miguel de Cervantes from the early 1600 – the Serrallés family’s favorite novel.

The creation of this Vermouth-mature Rome from Puerto Rico has produced a special taste profile that offers raisins, honey, dark chocolate and vanilla. The short-term vermouth-maturation contributes to a complex and rich taste profile – a flavor profile that is rarely seen in the region.

The room is tapped at 40% alcohol and we recommend that it be enjoyed.
