The Barbadillo family is world famous for sherry from Sanlucar de Barrameda, but the family originally comes from Burgos and so it was a lifelong dream that came true when they founded Bodegas Vega Real in 1997 in the heart of Ribera del Duero. Recently, the winery has expanded, so that they can now also offer wines from the DOs Rueda and Rioja.
The winemaker Luis Cuadrado has 25 years of experience and is among the area’s leaders. At his disposal are 80 hectares along the banks of the river Duero, where Tempranillo, Cabernet Sauvignon and Verdejo are grown. Vega Real’s own fields are supplemented by grapes from 3 skilled winegrowers who work exclusively for Vega Real. This means, among other things, that Vega Real can afford an extra strict selection, and only make wine from the absolute best grapes.
