With Secret Speyside (M) 2011/2024, a new edition of the Small Batch series, we can assume that the “M” in brackets stands for the Macallan distillery, although this has not been officially confirmed. This remarkable Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whiskey offers an unadulterated experience that captures the essence of the Speyside region.
This 12-year-old whiskey from the vintage 2011/2024 is characterized by an alcohol content of 48.2% vol. and maturation in Oloroso sherry casks. These casks bring rich fruit notes and complex depth to the whiskey which is further enhanced by the higher strength. The Secret Speyside (M) is non-dyed and non-chill filtered, preserving the natural aroma and texture.
Tasting notes:
Nose: Dried fruits, some chocolate and some nutty notes. There is also a subtle sulfur note which is not intrusive and goes well with the dried fruits.
Mouth: Notes of raisins and dried plums are noticeable. The sherry sweetness overshadows the sulphur. Old oak is also noticeable. I believe it is an older cask that has been filled with sherry several times and has become sulfur between sherry fills.
Finish: Long lasting, warming. Here the sulfur comes out a little from the spicy notes.
