Roger & Didier Raimbault – Sancerre Rouge 75 CL
Vin de France – Pinot Noir
Red wine in Sancerre is synonymous with pinot noir, which is far better known from Burgundy red wines, but in the cooler, western part of France has its own, lighter identity in the Loire. The common denominator is fruitiness and elegance.
Sancerre is the name behind the Loire’s most famous wine, but is also a cozy town located near the banks of the Loire River. While everyone seems to know the white Sancerrevine, few people know about the existence of red Sancerre.
The vinification takes place with 3 weeks of maceration and fermentation as well as storage in a steel tank, so that the original, fruity expression is preserved.
The wine possesses all the classic properties of the Pinot Noir grape, fine and delicate red berries, slightly mulled aromas with a fresh fruit acid and almost absent tannins. In addition, the wine here via the calcareous soil gets a lighter expression than you typically see in Burgundy (unless they are bought too cheap …).
Should be enjoyed in large glasses at 13-16 °, preferably in the company of a fried fish, light meat or charcuterie.
